This was solved for me as I just updated the config from Macbook to Macbook Pro, I simply changed the disk model name names to match Macbook Pro (as well as adding some irrelevant ones as everything was already covered) and now the scripts find the disks.

The script writes out the temp and pre-configures some things to make the task more user friendly. Since this is a big hassle, it’s better to just have a version that’s perfect to your needs.

I noticed this through the trial and error of getting fancontrol working on Linux for my AM4 motherboard. I think the simplest solution is to simply take fancontrol out of it’s “service” function, and move it’s code into a function of it’s own, which is then called in the appropriate points. It will be required to be “Requires=lm_sensors.service”, etc. Then it just needs to run the function and then lm_sensors.service, in that order. This would fix the file parse issues that I introduced, as it would check the fd, and kill the service if it was found to be out of date, just like it does in.service files.

I’ve tested the above with my system, and it works. Both my new fan control and my working fancontrol work. Running fancontrol first, then fan control, does not work. It acts like fancontrol takes longer, and the fan control method is more CPU intensive. I don’t know if this is normal, or if I somehow created this by accident. I haven’t looked at the code to figure out what happens, yet.

I’ve done some tests and it seems that not only was FANCONTROL 1.2.4 incompatible with lm-sensors 1.4.5.21, but also there’s a bug in lm-sensors 1.4.5.21, which is fixed in the new release. See my last post for details and a better solution.
