jeez you guys are bringing back the, “it’s only $20 if you want to support the developers” comments. You understand that they make the program, right? For the most part, they’ve been improving the software all these years and it’s given them a LOT of experience in this space. It’s not a bad thing when they bring something that’s significantly better than the previous version, it’s part of how they can stay a leader in this industry and it’s not like a commercial software with a ‘purchase now or else’ license model. The few changes they’ve made so far are simply for bug fixes and to have a good stable version for future reference. I’m not sure what you’re upset about either. But I’ll be honest, I would be happy if they never bring another feature to ZBrush. These companies are focused on their products and there are a ton of subscription models out there.
You could look at ZBrush as a marathon and not a race. They’ll continue improving the software and offering new features until it can’t get any better. ZBrush isn’t perfect and it has a lot of nits to be picked at. But, they can certainly afford to make mistakes and evolve over time. I won’t ever be upset with anything they do. They deserve the accolades they get for having produced one of the best software in the industry. They’ve earned their place at the top, they deserve what they receive from the great fan base they’ve built up over the years.
I understand that ZBrush is a niche software…and the idea that the licensing is probably too much to pay for a piece of software with such a small user base is probably correct. But if you also look at it from the other perspective: ZBrush has such a large user base, that any business that made a license cheaper would probably receive a windfall from it.
